Kendrick Lamar Drops First New Track in Four Years, ‘The Heart Part 5’
Kendrick Lamar has released the first track from his upcoming fifth studio album, ‘Mr. Morale And The Big Steppers,’ titled ‘The Heart Part 5.’
The song is Lamar’s first solo track since 2018’s ‘All The Stars,’ which featured SZA and was the lead single from the Black Panther soundtrack curated by Lamar. ‘The Heart Part 5’ is the latest installment in a series of songs Lamar has released over the course of his career – parts one and two were released in 2010, part three in 2012 and part four in 2017.
A music video for the tune has been released, which was co-directed by Dave Free and Lamar himself. Lamar raps the song in front of a crimson backdrop before his face is altered to resemble Kanye West, Kid Cudi and Will Smith using deepfake technology. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, are given “special thanks” in the video’s credits.

In late 2021, Lamar returned to music after a nearly three-year hiatus, performing on two tracks on his cousin Baby Keem’s debut album, ‘The Melodic Blue,’ titled ‘Family Ties’ and ‘Range Brothers.’ Last month at Coachella, the two performed ‘Family Ties’ and ‘Vent’ together.
Last month, the follow-up to 2017’s ‘DAMN.’ was announced: ‘Mr. Morale And The Big Steppers.’ In a further teaser, Lamar was seen carrying two CDs and a book with the album’s title emblazoned on it, implying that the release could be a double album with an accompanying written piece.
