Taylor Swift Makes History by Dominating Billboard’s Top 10 Albums

Taylor Swift is bossing the Billboard 200 albums chart like a music mogul, with an impressive five titles holding court in the top 10 (dated 9th December). This achievement marks her as the first living act since August 1963 to boast such a feat, proving that she’s not just a player in the music game; she’s dominating it.

The chart’s summit sees Swift’s most recent drop, ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version),’ reclaiming its throne by rising from the second spot. Joining the chart-topping party are four of her former hits: ‘Midnights’ making a move from 6-3, ‘Folklore’ holding strong at 9-5, ‘Lover’ maintaining its groove at 8-6, and ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ making a fresh entrance at 17-10.

Taylor Swift’s reign echoes the late Prince’s historic moment on the 14th May 14 2016, list, posthumously securing five spots in the top 10. Prince’s lineup included gems like ‘The Very Best of Prince,’ ‘Purple Rain’ soundtrack, ‘The Hits/The B-Sides,’ ‘Ultimate,’ and ‘1999.’ These legends share a rare distinction in the Billboard 200 history books.

The method to this musical madness is Billboard’s multi-metric consumption ranking, considering album sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming equivalent albums. Swift’s ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ snatched the top spot for the third time, pulling in 141,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending Nov. 30. A strategic move considering the retail promotions tied to Black Friday and holiday campaigns, giving her albums an extra sales boost.

But Swift isn’t the only one making waves in the top 10. Michael Bublé’s Christmas album, a timeless holiday favourite, is back in the festive mix, leaping from 24 to 9. Originally dropping in 2011, the chart-topper has become a holiday tradition, consistently rejoining the top 10 during the yuletide season.
