Disney Says Revealing a Late 2024 Release Date for ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ Was a Mistake

Earlier today, there was a moment when it seemed like Ubisoft’s open-world heist game, ‘Star Wars Outlaws,’ would hit the gaming scene towards the tail end of 2024. This tidbit surfaced through a post on the ‘Disney Parks’ blog. While not giving us an exact date, it did narrow down the release window from the previously vague “2024.”

In a snippet from the “24 Oooh-Worthy Things at Disney Experiences in 2024” post, ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ was hyped up for late release, especially for fans of the ‘Star Wars’ universe. The game promises an exploration of diverse planets, both familiar and new, allowing players to take on the role of Kay Vess, a budding scoundrel in search of freedom and a fresh start, accompanied by her partner Nix.

The galaxy, as the post suggests, is rife with opportunities for those willing to take the risk.

The post initially stated a more specific “late this year” timeframe. However, shortly after it gained attention, the information was edited, and now it simply states that ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ is slated for release “in 2024.”

The question arises: was this an unintentional reveal, akin to Warner Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s slip about ‘Mortal Kombat 12,’ or a straightforward typo, reminiscent of the classic ‘Minesweeper’ versus ‘Minecraft’ mix-up?

Regardless, putting your credits on late 2024 seems like a wise move. The holiday quarter is bustling with game releases, marking the traditional money-making season. Considering we’re already in the year, and no precise release window has emerged, the odds lean more towards a “later” rather than a “sooner” arrival.

Of course, there’s always the chance that Star Wars Outlaws takes a page from Skull and Bones and sails into 2025 and beyond. For now, the official stance, as conveyed by a Ubisoft representative to PC Gamer, is that the blog post was a mistake, and the release timing remains unchanged.
