2024 Oscars Nominations: The List of Nominees
After a six-month build-up of anticipation and speculation in the awards realm, the nominations for the 2024 Oscars have finally added a golden touch to one of Hollywood’s most significant showdowns of the year – the clash between Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer.’
In a surprising turn, ‘Oppenheimer’ emerged victorious with an impressive 13 nominations, dominating various categories.
Securing its position at the forefront of the Oscar race, ‘Oppenheimer’ claimed nominations in crucial categories, including ‘Best Picture,’ ‘Best Director’ (Christopher Nolan), ‘Best Actor’ (Cillian Murphy) and ‘Supporting roles’ for Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt.
On the other hand, Gerwig’s ‘Barbie,’ which garnered eight nominations, garnered attention for unexpected reasons. Notably, America Ferrera received a surprise nomination for ‘Supporting Actress.’
However, the absence of Gerwig in the ‘Best Director’ lineup raised eyebrows, as directors Justine Triet (‘Anatomy of a Fall’) and Jonathan Glazer (‘The Zone of Interest’) seemingly took her place. Although Margot Robbie missed out on a ‘Best Actress’ nomination, she received recognition for her role as a producer for the Best Picture-nominated blockbuster.
Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Poor Things’ secured the second-highest number of nominations with an impressive haul of 11 nods. This achievement also led to Emma Stone earning a double nomination this year, not only in the ‘Best Actress’ category but also as a producer of the film.
In a different corner, Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ received 10 nominations, although it notably missed out on the screenplay race. Despite this, Lily Gladstone’s Best Actress nomination marked a historic moment as she became the first Native American woman to secure a spot in this category.
