Tom Cruise Takes Center Stage in Upcoming Film by Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu

Tom Cruise, 61, is set to star in the next film by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, as confirmed by a representative for Cruise to PEOPLE on 22nd February. While specific plot details remain undisclosed, the project boasts a formidable team of writers, including Iñárritu, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone – the latter two having collaborated on the 2014 Oscar-winner Birdman.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, revealing ongoing discussions between Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment to acquire the film. Deadline additionally reported that Cruise will not only star but also produce alongside Legendary. Cruise’s schedule is brimming, with talks of a potential ‘Top Gun 3’ following the triumph of ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’

Christopher McQuarrie, Eric Singer, and Ehren Kruger are reportedly involved in the project, with Kruger already in the writing phase. Sources suggest that Maverick’s director, Joe Kosinski, may return to the director’s chair.

Although Cruise has yet to publicly commit to the franchise’s continuation, insights from cast members Miles Teller and Glen Powell hint at ongoing discussions. Teller mentioned conversations with Cruise about another movie in July 2022, stating, “It’s all up to Tom.” Powell echoed similar sentiments in August 2022, expressing readiness to return if called back.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was hailed as a post-pandemic success, garnering praise from audiences and Hollywood insiders alike. Steven Spielberg even credited Cruise with “saving Hollywood’s a–” during an Oscars nominees luncheon.
