Meet Moana’s Little Sister in the Exciting New Trailer

Walt Disney Animation Studios has just unveiled a new trailer for ‘Moana 2’, the highly anticipated sequel that takes Auli’i Cravalho’s beloved character into new and unexplored adventures. The trailer reveals that Moana is now an older sister and her relationship with her sibling will play a key role in shaping the themes of the movie. Set a few years after Moana saved her community from Te Fiti, the sequel sees her embark on another epic voyage to uncover secrets about her past.

Fans will also be excited to see Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) return in ‘Moana 2’, joining Moana once again in her quest to protect Motunui. In the trailer, Maui humorously reflects on missing the villain from the first movie as he and Moana prepare to face new challenges. The preview also teases one of the songs featured in this family-friendly musical adventure.

Originally planned as a Disney+ series, ‘Moana 2’ was reworked into a theatrical release following the underperformance of other Disney films like ‘Wish’ and ‘Strange World’. The sequel is co-directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller. While Lin-Manuel Miranda didn’t return to compose the songs, the music is now in the hands of Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, with Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i crafting the score.

Following the release of ‘Moana 2’, Disney will continue working on a live-action remake of the first movie, set to hit theatres on 10th July 2026. In this version, Catherine Laga’aia will take over the role of Moana, with Thomas Kail directing. Kail previously collaborated with Disney on the filmed production of ‘Hamilton’.

‘Moana 2’ will hit theaters in the U.S. on 27th November, 2024.
