Selena Gomez Reveals Her Obsession With Kurt Cobain Documentary ‘Montage of Heck’
Selena Gomez recently shared insights into her musical tastes and personal experiences during a recent interview, where she discussed her teenage fascination with Kurt Cobain, her acting techniques, her current break from recording music, and the feeling of receiving a 11-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. The 32-year-old singer and actress, who is currently promoting her Oscar-worthy role in Emilia Pérez, spoke alongside her co-star Zoë Saldaña, who also offered her own pop culture stories.
When asked about albums she often returns to, Gomez mentioned Channel Orange by Frank Ocean and 19 by Adele. She was then reminded of a past appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where she had shared her deep admiration for Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain. Reflecting on that moment, Gomez said that she should have mentioned one of Nirvana’s albums, as she was—and still is—obsessed with Cobain. She went on to explain that she even dyed her hair to match his iconic look.

In her portrayal of Jessi, the wife of a transgender former cartel boss in Emilia Pérez, Gomez also sports a blonde look, which she revealed was partly inspired by Cobain. She noted that it was kind of the look she was going for.
Gomez also expressed her admiration for Cobain’s 2015 documentary Montage of Heck, calling it one of her favourite music documentaries. She said that it was “really emotional, but so powerful” and that she had watched it “at least ten times.” She shared how the film made her feel, admitting that she “felt so many things watching it.”
