20 A-Listers Making A Difference in Times of COVID-19

As we try to make it through the days with our heads held high, there’s no denying that we all need some help; some of us more than others. As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread and take a toll on people, there are several musicians out there doing their bit. From providing masks and protective gear to capital funds and even essential supplies like food, the music community has come together to provide resources to those in need like never before.

Here are 20 artists who have made massive contributions towards COVID-19 relief.

Beyonce –

The American singer-songwriter made headlines as she donated a whopping 6 million dollars towards COVID-19 relief efforts, joining hands with Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and his #startsmall fund. The money will go towards relief initiatives around mental health and those working with people of color.

2. Taylor Swift –

Taylor Swift has been at the forefront of providing monetary relief to those in need from the very beginning. Even with all the ‘drama’ surrounding her life, she has managed to stay above board and promote the various relief funds she is contributing to as well as help fans out with their bills. The singer distributed thousands of dollars to fans after learning of their financial troubles amid the stay at home orders in place. One contribution went as high as $3,000 dollars.

3. Lady Gaga –

Lady Gaga raised close to $130 million dollars in joint efforts with WHO and The Global Citizen Organisation with the One World: Together at Home concert, featuring the likes of Taylor Swift, Little Mix, Elton John, Sam Smith and more. The concert has been talked about since its premiere and the funds have been distributed to all those working on the frontlines and families in need of financial aid.

4. Rihanna –

Rihanna did what she usually does and made hefty contributions in the early stages of the pandemic. From relief for healthcare workers, to mental healthcare initiatives as well as support towards domestic abuse victims amid the pandemic, she has contributed close to 12 million dollars in relief aid.

5. Future –

The rapper, in collaboration with the Free Wishes Foundation has provided healthcare workers and essential services workers with 100,000 protective masks amid the pandemic.

6. Halsey-

The New Jersey singer-songwriter put her money to good use when she acquired and purchased 100,000 FDA approved 3-ply protective mouth masks, and distributed them among healthcare workers. The singer took to her Instagram to express her awe and gratitude towards professionals working on the frontlines to provide relief to thousands. The masks were distributed amongst them.

7. Madonna-

Madonna took a cue from John Legend and donated 100,000 masks to jail inmates and prison workers, who have been neglected during the pandemic. The singer emphasized how important it is to care for everyone at a time like this.

8. Shawn Mendes-

Shawn Mendes, in association with the Shawn Mendes Foundation, donated 175,000 to the SickKids Hospital as well as contributed to relief efforts by the WHO.

9. Cardi B-

Cardi B has been making headlines in relation to the pandemic since the very beginning, with her rants and public pleas to stay at home, and even a remix of her viral moment from Instagram. Despite all the comedic press, she has been making a real difference. The rapper teamed up with clothing company Fashion Nova for a campaign that vowed to pay people in financial distress a 1000 dollars until the total donations reached a million dollars.

10. Suga from BTS-

Suga from the K-Pop boy group reportedly made a large donation to a Daegu-based relief organisation. The 83,000 dollar donation was made to The Hope Bridge Foundation in his hometown.

11. Troye Sivan-

Troye did not miss his chance to provide help to the ones in need at this crucial hour. With the release of his latest single, ‘Take Yourself Home’, he’s also come out with a clothing line, T-shirts to be specific. He has ensured his fans that 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the WHO COVID19 Solidarity Fund and Spotify’s COVID-19 Music Relief project. He also encouraged his fans to help those struggling in the music industry, in a recent social media post, “Go and help artists in need — not me, like bands and crews — people in the entertainment industry, and families who need it,” he stated.

12. P!nk-

P!nk
Pink’s Covid scare has not stopped the artist from reaching out and supporting frontline workers. She recently donated $500,000 to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia. Her mother, Judy Moore, has worked in this hospital for a whopping 18 years, so this crisis definitely hit close to home.
The singer also donated an additional $500,000 to the Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency COVID-19 Crisis Fund.

13. Katy Perry-

Katy Perry
Doing her bit to aid the battle against coronavirus, Katy Perry has started making contributions by providing essential items to those in desperate need.
The 35-year-old singer is donating 10 percent from the sale of every shoe and handbag in the months of April and May from her brand – katyperrycollections. The fund will be donated to the non-profit organisation ‘Baby2Baby’ to assist “their efforts in providing essential items to children and families impacted by COVID-19”

14. Eminem-

Eminem, the Detroit native, recently sent tubs of prepared spaghetti to the entire staff of Henry Ford Hospital, a local age-old institution, and Detroit Receiving Hospital. With over 400 meals being delivered through the rapper’s Marshall Mathers Foundation. He also clarified that these efforts will continue over the next month.

15. Lizzo-

Lizzo recently made sure to treat several emergency staff to lunch in their appreciation on National Doctor’s Day! The artist took to social media to thank these heroes at the frontlines, with a sweet message, “It’s definitely not easy and you guys are putting yourselves on the frontlines, so because of that I wanted to treat y’all to a meal and I really hope that you guys enjoy the food.” She also reassured her fans that once the meals were safely delivered, her team stayed indoors.

16. Twenty One Pilots-

After the band’s latest quarantine themed song, ‘Level of Concern’ claimed the No. 1 Spot on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs Chart and crossed 10 million online streams, the duo ensured that a portion of the proceeds made from the song went toward the crew members working with Twenty One Pilots, for their could-have-been tour(which has been currently put on hold due to the pandemic). “It provides funding for people who work in the live music industry who don’t have a job right now,” said Tyler Joseph, one half of the duo.

17. My Chemical Romance-

The now reunited band is selling MCR-branded face masks, and donating all proceeds to the MusiCares COVID-19 relief fund.
In a strange turn of events, this idea began growing much before the COVID 19 crisis ravaged the globe. The masks were originally conceived as a desert screening device by the band’s late manager, Lauren Valencia, who lost her battle against cancer.
“We are living in strange times, alienating times, scary times, we had these masks made to keep you dust-free in the desert, a show that never happened, never will, a protection that then seemed timeworn. And here we are, with these masks, as though Lauren was prescient or we were unknowingly waiting for the right time…”the band explained.

18. Elton John-

The COVID-19 pandemic is making every headline right now, but Sir Elton John is determined that those living with HIV/AIDS are not “forgotten”. He has announced that his AIDS Foundation will donate $1m (£815,000) over the next few months.
Speaking on Miley Cyrus’ Bright Minded live stream show, Elton spoke about the “double whammy” being faced by HIV/AIDS sufferers during this pandemic. While one battle rages on, he has made sure to provide enough armour to aid the other one as well.

19. Miley Cyrus-

Cody Simpson and Miley Cyrus are thanked local hospital employees with a thoughtful meal amid the coronavirus crisis. The new couple on the block delivered tacos to healthcare workers, who they branded as “the heroes of our time” on an Instagram post. Miley has also joined forces with MAC Cosmetics, as they aim to earmark 10 million from their annual Viva Glam campaign toward 250 local organizations heavily impacted by the virus,

20. Selena Gomez-

Selena Gomez just released the Deluxe Edition of her latest album “Rare”, and a portion of these proceeds will be going to the COVID-19 relief fund.
By donating $1 from every order of the Deluxe Edition to the Plus1 COVID-19 Relief Fund, the artist is doing her bit to help out.
