War horror movies are an often overlooked sub-genre that doesn’t receive much appreciation. With so many aspects of horror, some types get less attention, and war horror films are particularly neglected. This might be because war movies are already popular without needing any added twists or surprises—war itself is inherently terrifying. There’s no need to add horror elements to make a war film disturbing.
However, some outstanding war horror movies deserve more recognition. The setting of a war front or the aftermath of a brutal conflict is inherently unnerving and inhumane, making it a perfect backdrop for horror stories. It’s no wonder that horror writers and directors are drawn to this theme.
