The horror genre has been largely ignored by the Academy Awards since its founding in 1928, even though viewers continue to find it appealing. Horror movies are frequently overlooked in important categories like acting and directing, even though they are frequently recognized in technical categories. This is true even though several enduringly popular horror films have made a lasting impression on the industry, despite frequently being eclipsed by less successful productions.
Just six horror movies have been nominated for ‘Best Picture’ in almost a century of Oscars and only one of those movies has won the coveted golden statuette. Although there isn’t much recognition for this genre, a few scary films have made it big and won awards.
