Shawn Mendes: Gems From His Past Records
Shawn Mendes just pulled a Taylor Swift. And by that we mean, he’s given us around a 24 hour notice before dropping the intro track to his fresh new album. But thankfully, we have a couple more weeks to gather ourselves before the entire album makes its landing on December 4th.
While “Wonder” has already become the talk of the town, we’ve decided to take the celebrations one step forward. And here’s how we’re doing it. We’ve decided to look back on all the great gems Shawn’s previous albums have nursed. These melodies will linger on our tongues for years to come and so will the victories that’ve followed these records. And on that note, here’s a deep dive into some of the biggest hits Shawn Mendes has gifted us with.

2. Long before ‘Senorita’ was born, Shawn initially tied up with Camila Cabello for ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ which served as the lead track for “Handwritten”. There’s a name for this sort of thing: fate.
3. The groovy tune, ‘There’s Nothing Holding Me Back’ found a warm spot on the star’s 2016 album, “Illuminate”. Critics heaped praises on the track, exclaiming, “the song’s sound falls right in line with the guitar-laced goodness he brought on his sophomore effort, but this time bringing in a little more edge.”
4. Next in line, ‘In My Blood’ arrived with Shawn’s soulful vocals, accompanied by a stunning visualizer featuring the singer simply lying in the middle of a blooming garden. This track is a part of his third self-titled studio album.
5. The lovey-dovey hit, ‘If I Can’t Have You’ also found a space on his third record. The track debuted at No. 2 on both the Canadian Hot 100 and the US Billboard Hot 100, marking Mendes’ highest charting hit in both countries at the time.
6. The sultry, funky bop ‘Lost in Japan’ made its landing in March of 2018. Critics labeled the track “another solid gold bop” – which as the kids say, is “Facts”.
7. ” You can’t take my youth away/This soul of mine will never break,” Shawn sings in his track, ‘Youth’ speaking of the crippling pressures of the industry and the feeling of his youth, slipping between his fingers.
8. ‘Nervous’ from Shawn’s self-titled third album also addressed the anxieties that came with youth, particularly regarding young love.
9. This very record also highlighted the star’s brilliant songwriting, especially in tracks like, ‘Youth,’ ‘Particular Taste,’ ‘Fallin’ All In You’ and more.
10. And finally, there’s no way we’d be leaving out ‘Senorita’ from this list! The track earned Shawn his very first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single also scored an American Music Award, two MTV Video Music Awards and a People’s Choice Award.
