The Nostalgia Trip: Shakira
A number of musicians are coming together to fight for yet another cause. With Global Citizen and the European Commission announcing the “Global Goal: Unite for Our Future” Concert – a string of stellar stars have lined up to perform.
On the list is Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, Quavo, and of course Shakira. So, as we gear up to watch Shakira take the stage (or perhaps her living room) once more, we have a treat in store for you. So, we don’t know what her set list is going to look like but that got us thinking. Why don’t we take ya’ll on a trip down memory lane? It’s time to look back on all those killer Shakira numbers that we’ve jammed out to, until someone’s had to beg us to stop.
2. ‘Whenever Wherever’ found its space on Shakira’s All-English debut album with quite the intriguing name, ‘Laundry Service’. Globally, it has sold over 8.5 million physical copies, making it one of the best selling singles of all time.

3. ‘She Wolf’ was the title track of Shakira’s eighth studio album of the same name. Interestingly enough, this album took a step away from the star’s traditional Latin Pop style, instead exploring electropop with influences of folk and (drumroll please) even Indian classical music.

4. If ya’ll didn’t know that Shakira collabed with Rihanna on a track, we’re disappointed with you. This one was called, ‘Can’t Remember to Forget You’. Surprisingly, it didn’t do too well as a lot of critics pointed out that Shakira and Rihanna’s vocals sounded ‘far too similar’. Photo Credit: Stuart Franklin
5. While we’re on the topic of collabs, how can we leave out Shakira and Beyonce’s ‘Beautiful Liar’?? Beyoncé once said that she met Shakira several times at various awards shows, and they talked about plans to collaborate on a song, but their schedules could never match up. Despite recording this tune in different studios, they still created magic.

6. Ah ah, no way in hell were we going to leave out ‘Waka Waka’. This tune encourages one to aim for their goals like a soldier on a battlefield.

7. ‘Dare (La La La)’ sat on Shakira’s self-titled tenth studio album. Oh and here’s the best part: it also featured on the 2014 World Cup Official Album.

9. ‘Loca’, with the music video for this track, Shakira wanted to try something different. Filmed on the beaches of Barcelona, the video was shot in “guerrilla-style”, utilizing hand-held cameras to shoot almost all of the scenes.

10. For the track, ‘Rabiosa’, Shakira recruited Pitbull onboard for the English version of this number. Upon its release, the music video went viral on YouTube amassing four million views in less than 48 hours.
