Words To Live By: Celebrating Bryan Adams

With a body of work often gawked at and enough awards to fill up an entire building, Bryan Adams has created a prominent dent in the music landscape. And as he rings in his 61st birthday, we’re pulling out all the stops to celebrate this legend.
The Canadian star first found his footing when he started working in the Vancouver music scene with bands and as a studio session singer, which paid the rent. At the age of 15, he became the vocalist for a pub band, Sweeney Todd, in 1975. By 1980, Bryan Adams had already released his debut self-titled album. And as time went by, Adams not only collected a number of sparkling accolades along the way, but he also moulded the rock landscape into something phenomenal. So, with years upon years of experience under his belt, the seasoned star’s also got a lot to say about the industry and the world. And we’re here to deliver some of his most impactful words straight to you.

Bryan Adams, A Star In Full Form
1. “I’ve always wanted to push myself and move with the tide. That’s just how I am and it’s worked for me.”
2. “If your music is great, you will have fans, not because you have spent time chatting on social media.”
3. “I always knew I’d be in music in some sort of capacity. I didn’t know if I’d be successful at it, but I knew I’d be doing something in it. Maybe get a job in a record store. Maybe even play in a band. I never got into this to be a star.”
4. “To be a celebrity, I couldn’t think of anything more cringe-worthy.”
5. “I think a lot of people want to be remembered the way they were, as opposed to the way they are now.”
6. “I like to be able to present myself in two or three different ways because I’ve never really wanted to rest on my laurels and be something that people expected.”
7. “I’ve only ever trusted my gut on everything. I don’t trust my head, I don’t trust my heart, I trust my gut.”
8. “Social media is a giant distraction to the ultimate aim, which is honing your craft as a songwriter. There are people who are exceptional at it, however, and if you can do both things, then that’s fantastic, but if you are a writer, the time is better spent on a clever lyric than a clever tweet.”
9. “There’s not an instruction manual on how to deal with success, so you just have to rely on having great friends and a good team.”
10. “I like the idea of helping people help people.”
