‘Argylle’ Review: Even Henry Cavill Can’t Save This Movie

If you’ve been to the cinema recently, chances are you’ve been bombarded by the trailer for what could potentially be the year’s biggest flop: ‘Argylle.’ Featuring an all-star cast including John Cena, Dua Lipa, and Bryan Cranston, it’s hard to ignore the allure of such names. But is the film worth the hype? Well, let me save you the trouble – it’s not.

So, after enduring the relentless promotion, I thought, why not give ‘Argylle’ a shot? I didn’t expect it to be a masterpiece, but surely it would offer some entertainment value, right? Wrong. What followed was a cinematic experience so absurdly nonsensical that I spent more time trying to make sense of it than actually enjoying it.

The premise had potential: a bestselling author predicting real-life espionage. However, the execution was a disaster. The film tried to cram in so many ideas and plot twists that it left viewers feeling dizzy and disconnected. It couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be a comedy or a serious spy thriller – and failed at both.

Some might argue that ‘Argylle’ is meant to be a parody of traditional spy films like ‘John Wick’ or ‘James Bond.’ While satire can be effective, this film missed the mark entirely. The jokes were cheesy, the characters underdeveloped, and the storyline a chaotic mess. Even predicting the predictable became a source of disappointment.

What’s more disappointing is the wasted talent involved. Bryce Dallas Howard, known for her stellar performances in acclaimed films and TV shows, couldn’t salvage the train wreck of a script. And while John Cena and Dua Lipa aren’t known for their acting chops, their potential for comedic cameos was squandered.

Whether you’re after a thought-provoking masterpiece or a lighthearted romp, ‘Argylle’ isn’t worth your time. Save yourself the disappointment and choose something else.
