Austin Butler's New Movie 'City On Fire' Can Be Very Big For Him

Austin Butler has been making waves in Hollywood lately, with notable roles in films like 'Dune: Part Two' and 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.' Having started his career as an extra on Disney Channel shows, Butler's rise has been nothing short of impressive. His dedication to his craft has earned him around 40 nominations over the past 14 years, and his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the 2022 biopic 'Elvis' has won him both a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

While there's a buzz around Butler potentially stepping into Chris Shiherlis’s shoes in 'Heat 2,' a sequel to the iconic 1995 crime film that starred Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, his role in an upcoming project might present a bigger opportunity. Rumours suggest that Butler received gun training from Taran Tactical for 'Heat 2,' but he’s also set to take on a lead role in the crime thriller 'City On Fire,' based on Don Winslow’s 2022 novel.

'City On Fire,' still in early development, will see Butler play Danny Ryan, a street soldier who rises to lead amidst a clash between criminal empires. Directed by Justin Kuritzkes, who penned the script for the viral film 'Challengers,' this project is generating considerable excitement. Given that the novel is the first in a trilogy, there’s potential for a franchise, which would mark Butler's first consecutive involvement in a major series.

Though 'Heat 2' would offer Butler a chance to step into an iconic role, 'City On Fire' promises him a more central position as the lead. This role could be the perfect platform for Butler to showcase his range and possibly establish himself in a franchise from the ground up.
