How ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Shapes the Future of the MCU

Spoilers Ahead!

After more than ten years in the franchise, Sam Wilson’s first solo appearance as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally here with ‘Captain America: Brave New World’. Storylines from earlier MCU films are carried over into this one, including Sam’s confrontation with President Thaddeus Ross and the reappearance of Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader. In addition to telling its own standalone tale, ‘Brave New World’ establishes the framework for future developments in the MCU, especially Sam’s transformation as Captain America.

Joaquin Torres now formally assumes the position of Falcon after the events of ‘The Falcon’ and the ‘Winter Soldier’. Despite his enthusiasm, Joaquin lacks experience, thus Sam is hesitant to put him in dangerous missions. But Sam asks Joaquin to help him find the truth after his mentor, Isaiah Bradley, is wrongfully accused of trying to kill President Ross.

Joaquin sustains serious injuries during their mission but recovers, which sparks an emotional discussion on the weight of heroism with Sam. Both reiterate their dedication to their positions in spite of the difficulties. Sam had initially opposed Ross’s proposal to recreate the Avengers prior to his demise. But after everything that happens, he starts to realize how crucial the team’s return is.

A far more serious threat is hinted at in the post-credits sequence. The Leader cryptically informs Sam when he is confined in the Raft that there are heroes elsewhere and that a multiversal crisis is on the horizon. This seems to hint at two upcoming movies that will wrap up the MCU’s Multiverse Saga: ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’

Important components that could influence Sam’s path are also introduced in the movie, such as the discovery of adamantium and a changing dynamic with Ross, who accepts responsibility for his previous deeds. It is unclear, nevertheless, how these themes will be investigated in further initiatives.
