How Elphaba’s Journey Leads to Ruling the Flying Monkeys in ‘Wicked: For Good’

The Wicked Witch that we know from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is still being transformed into Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) in ‘Wicked’. Her complete reputation is still unknown, despite the fact that she has embraced some of the classic characteristics, such as having green skin, a pointed hat, and a broom. An important aspect of the Wicked Witch’s legend is depicted in the movie: her first association with the flying monkeys.

First, in a torturous transformation, Elphaba gives wings to a monkey guard using the Grimmerie. This modification is a component of the Wizard’s scheme to produce flying monkeys for his own army, which culminates in a tense scene in which Elphaba challenges the Wizard and these new flying monkeys are dispatched to capture her.

‘Wicked’ lays out a future in which Elphaba’s relationship with the flying monkeys changes despite this hostile start. The foundation is already in place for the anticipated sequel, ‘Wicked: For Good’, which will examine Elphaba’s union with the flying monkeys. Even though Elphaba’s spell hurts them, it isn’t deliberate. However, The Wizard ignores their misery in favour of concentrating on the possibility of deploying them as spies. Given Elphaba’s empathy, which causes her to regret even unintentional harm, this is the beginning of the flying monkeys’ change in loyalty.

Elphaba returns to the Emerald City in the second act of ‘Wicked’, where she attempts to rescue the flying monkeys from the Wizard’s hold.

To convince Elphaba to accompany him, the Wizard, however, manipulates the circumstances by granting the monkeys freedom. When Elphaba finds out about the Wizard’s treachery of Professor Dillamond, this strategy backfires and she becomes even more opposed to him. Ultimately, the flying monkeys support her, demonstrating that Elphaba genuinely cares for Oz’s downtrodden creatures. Despite others’ initial fear, their bond grows stronger and more unified.
