Jurassic Park’s Most Terrifying Monster is Not The Dinosaurs

The most perilous creature in the ‘Jurassic Park’ trilogy has been there all along, but viewers have been obsessed with the frightful dinosaurs for more than thirty years.  Even if dinosaurs like the T. rex, Spinosaurus, and Indominus Rex are meant to “scare the kids,” the guy who made them is the real cause of mayhem in ‘Jurassic Park’.

Dinosaurs were introduced into the modern world by InGen’s fictional creator, John Hammond.  He is portrayed in Michael Crichton’s 1990 book as a cunning businessman who prioritizes wealth over morality.  The book’s Hammond is a ruthless capitalist who takes shortcuts and ignores cautions, in contrast to the gentle visionary portrayed by Richard Attenborough in the movies.  He places the blame on others rather than taking ownership of the catastrophes his park has caused.  He is eventually consumed by the exact creatures he attempted to take advantage of, which is the result of his unrelenting ambition.

The character of Hammond was softer in Steven Spielberg’s version, becoming a dreamer who truly believes in the wonder of his work.  He still has several serious flaws, even though his movie counterpart is more empathetic.  The ensuing catastrophes were caused by his conceit and refusal to recognize the dangers of genetic engineering.  Even when he acknowledges his errors later, his legacy is still marred.  ‘Jurassic Park’ is based on recklessness, even though it was inspired by amazement.

Hammond’s past might contain even more sinister secrets as ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ draws near.  Although the dinosaurs have frightened viewers, Hammond’s unbridled ambition is what has really influenced the franchise’s tragedies.  His tale serves as a reminder that the most dangerous monsters are frequently those who think they are acting morally.
