The first trailer for 'Black Phone 2' has dropped, sparking excitement among horror fans who are already drawing comparisons to 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' as Ethan Hawke returns to reprise his chilling role.

Set to release later this year, the sequel brings back Mason Thames as Finn, who defeated the terrifying child serial killer known as The Grabber (played by Hawke) in the first 'Black Phone' film. However, the Grabber is far from gone. The new chapter centres on his sister, who starts getting eerie phone calls in her dreams and terrifying visions of three boys being hunted at a remote winter camp. When the group ventures to the camp, they discover that The Grabber’s powers have only grown stronger after death.

What Does 'Black Phone 2' Trailer Offer?

The 'Black Phone 2' trailer offers glimpses of the dark and eerie tone to expect, including a tense phone exchange where Finn tells The Grabber he’s dead, only for the villain to reply that dead is just a word. Fans responded enthusiastically online, with many praising the trailer for its mix of supernatural horror elements reminiscent of 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'Sinister'. Viewers expressed surprise at the sequel’s potential, especially given how the first movie ended, with many saying they are now intrigued and eager for more.

Director Scott Derrickson shared insights about the film’s darker tone in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that while the original movie centred on victims’ ghosts, the sequel features a ghost who is the villain. Derrickson also revealed that the sequel wasn’t initially planned, but ideas from the original short story writer, Joe Hill, inspired the continuation. He noted that the story in 'Black Phone 2' picks up as the characters enter a new stage in life, allowing for a more mature and intense narrative.

Derrickson teased that 'Black Phone 2' will ramp up the intensity, promising a darker, bloodier, and more terrifying experience than the first film, all fueled by the characters’ older age, setting the stage for a truly spine-chilling sequel.

'Black Phone 2' is shaping up to be a must-watch for horror fans, blending chilling supernatural elements with psychological thrills.
