Horror and vampire fans are in for a blood-soaked year at the movies. Following the genre-defying impact of Ryan Coogler’s 'Sinners' and ahead of Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated 'Frankenstein', French filmmaker Luc Besson is stepping into the ring with a fresh, romantic take on one of horror’s most iconic figures in 'Dracula: A Love Tale'. The first trailer has officially dropped—and it’s as darkly seductive as you'd hope.
Starring Caleb Landry Jones in the titular role, the movie 'Dracula: A Love Tale' traces a sweeping 400-year-old story of love, death, and damnation. In the trailer, we witness Dracula’s transformation from a grieving man of faith to the tormented vampire we’ve come to fear. His heartbreak and loss of faith drive him into darkness, until centuries later, he encounters a woman who uncannily resembles his long-lost love.

Set against the lush, vintage backdrop of Belle Époque Paris, 'Dracula: A Love Tale' blends gothic horror with a deep, emotional core. Inspired by Bram Stoker’s legendary novel, this adaptation shifts the narrative lens to deliver something rare in Dracula lore—a story told almost entirely from the vampire's perspective.
How is Dracula Portrayed in 'Dracula: A Love Tale'
Caleb Landry Jones, who takes on the role of the tragic antihero, explained that, unlike previous portrayals where Dracula appears as a fleeting monster or hidden force, this film keeps audiences by his side throughout. The story digs into Dracula’s psyche, allowing viewers to see the world through his eyes. It’s a perspective rarely explored in past adaptations, where Dracula is often kept at a distance. Here, the film immerses the audience in his loneliness, heartbreak, and humanity.
The film 'Dracula: A Love Tale' draws thematic depth from Dracula’s origin story, long believed to be inspired by the real-life figure of Prince Vlad III. According to legend, the suicide of Vlad’s beloved wife, Elisabeta, led him to turn away from God and embrace eternal darkness—a story that Besson reimagines with modern cinematic flair.

Starring alongside Caleb Landry Jones is Zoë Bleu Sidel, who takes on the dual role of Elisabeta and her 19th-century reincarnation, Mina. Christoph Waltz appears as a mysterious priest, with Matilda De Angelis as Maria and Haymon Maria Buttinger portraying a cardinal with a hidden agenda.
'Dracula: A Love Tale' promises to blend rich storytelling, eerie visuals, and a romantic core that sets it apart from typical vampire fare. With its stylised vintage setting, emotional weight, and a fresh take on a classic legend, it’s shaping up to be a compelling contender in 2025’s horror lineup.
Catch 'Dracula: A Love Tale' when it arrives in theatres on 30th July.
