Guillermo del Toro’s 'Frankenstein' movie has finally unleashed its first trailer—and it's every bit as eerie, epic, and jaw-droppingly gorgeous as fans hoped it would be.
Premiering during the Netflix Tudum 2025 global event on May 31, the trailer reveals Jacob Elordi as the iconic monster brought to life by Oscar Isaac’s role as Victor Frankenstein.
The renowned monster is portrayed by Elordi, who is most recognised for his performance in 'Euphoria,' as a tall and sorrowful character. Oscar Isaac takes on the role of Dr. Frankenstein, a brilliant but prideful scientist whose twisted experiment leads to devastating consequences for both creator and creation.
Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro, renowned for 'Pan’s Labyrinth', 'The Shape of Water', 'Nightmare Alley', and Netflix’s 'Pinocchio', has been developing this reimagining of Mary Shelley's gothic masterpiece for over a decade. Del Toro has long considered the 1931 film a personal favourite and brings a deeply emotional and artistic vision to this new adaptation.
The official synopsis teases a story of ambition, tragedy, and horror: Dr. Frankenstein, driven by ego and genius, conducts an unnatural experiment to create a living being, only to face the horrifying consequences of defying nature.
More About 'Frankenstein'
'Frankenstein', originally written by Mary Shelley in 1818, is a groundbreaking Gothic novel that explores the dangers of unchecked ambition and the moral limits of scientific discovery. The story centres on Victor Frankenstein, a gifted but deranged scientist who builds a creature out of dead body parts to create life.
However, horrified by his own creation, Victor abandons the monster, leading to tragic consequences. The novel raises timeless questions about identity, isolation, and what it means to be human. Over two centuries later, 'Frankenstein' remains a powerful cautionary tale that continues to inspire countless adaptations in film, literature, and popular culture.

Elordi joined the cast after Andrew Garfield exited the project. Garfield previously shared that while he was initially disappointed to leave the role, meeting Elordi at the Marrakech International Film Festival changed his perspective. He felt the young actor was the right fit for the part and perhaps needed the transformative experience more than he did.
Get ready for chills and cinematic magic—Guillermo del Toro’s 'Frankenstein' is creeping onto Netflix this November 2025! With his signature dark flair, del Toro breathes new life into the classic tale of creation gone wrong, blurring the line between genius and madness, man and monster, life and death.
