Nearly three years have passed since ‘Rush Hour 4’ was first teased, igniting excitement among fans eager for a new chapter in the beloved action-comedy franchise. Since then, however, updates on the film’s progress have been scarce, leading many to speculate that the project may have quietly been shelved. Now, a recent comment from franchise star Jackie Chan is renewing hope that the fourth instalment may still be in development.

While attending the red carpet premiere of his latest martial arts film, ‘Karate Kid: Legends’, Jackie Chan briefly discussed the future of ‘Rush Hour 4’. Although he admitted to having no firm updates from the studio or director, his enthusiasm for returning to the role of Detective Lee was clear. He reaffirmed his desire to reunite with Chris Tucker and even expressed interest in reviving other action-comedy favourites like the ‘Shanghai Noon’ series.

Fans will recall that Jackie Chan last spoke about ‘Rush Hour 4’ at the 2023 Red Sea Film Festival, confirming that the project was in development and hinting at an upcoming meeting with the director. However, the identity of the new director remains unknown. Given Brett Ratner’s departure from the industry following serious misconduct allegations, it’s unlikely he will return to helm the new film. Ratner directed all three previous Rush Hour movies but hasn’t worked in Hollywood since 2018.

A key factor behind the extended delay of ‘Rush Hour 4’ seems to be the ongoing search for a creative team.  Jackie Chan has previously made it clear that he would only sign on if the script met a high standard. With both Jackie Chan and Tucker open to reprising their roles, the final hurdle seems to be assembling a production team capable of reviving the franchise with a fresh and compelling vision.

As fans continue to await official confirmation, Jackie Chan's latest comments are a promising sign that ‘Rush Hour 4’ is not entirely off the table. With nostalgia for the series still strong, and both lead actors ready to return, momentum may finally be building toward a long-overdue reunion on the big screen.
