Peter Dinklage is back on the big screen — but not as you’ve seen him before. In 'The Toxic Avenger', 'Game of Thrones' star Peter Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a struggling janitor who transforms into a monstrous but unlikely hero.
Directed by Macon Blair and based on the 1984 cult classic from Troma, the reboot is set to hit theatres on 29th August, and a newly released Red Band trailer is turning heads with its unapologetically over-the-top violence, twisted humour, and heart.
The story follows Gooze, a humble maintenance worker battling a terminal illness and corporate greed. When his soulless boss, Bob Garbinger (played by Kevin Bacon), refuses to provide health coverage, Gooze attempts to rob the company — only to suffer a freak accident that alters him into the Toxic Avenger, a twisted but determined punisher. Armed with his trusty mop, he sets out to dismantle the crime, corruption, and capitalism poisoning his town.

The Trailer Offers All Things Gore
While Blair's take on the character introduces a more emotionally grounded backstory, it doesn’t shy away from the franchise’s signature chaos. The trailer is loaded with grotesque effects — heads explode, jaws drop (literally), and limbs fly. It's a love letter to the original’s outrageous tone, with Blair ensuring every absurd, blood-soaked beat is intact.

Blair’s vision was fully supported by Legendary Pictures, which embraced the idea of staying true to the film’s Troma roots — R-rated gore, practical effects, and juvenile satire included. Cineverse, a distributor known for backing edgy horror like 'Terrifier 3', is bringing the movie to theatres, marking one of its most ambitious releases yet.
Joining Dinklage and Bacon is a standout ensemble that includes Jacob Tremblay as Gooze’s son Wade, along with Elijah Wood and others. Early reactions from critics have been overwhelmingly positive, with the movie currently sitting at a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Brace yourself for a bloody, chaotic thrill-fest as 'The Toxic Avenger' explodes into theatres on 29th August.
