Peter Jackson Calls This ‘Lord of the Rings’ Film the Best in the Trilogy

Even as its 25th anniversary draws near, Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books, ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, continues to be a staple of popular culture. In an interview with Letterboxd, filmmaker Peter Jackson recently expressed his personal opinions on the three films, while fans are still debating which is the best. Even though he doesn’t often watch his own movies, he confessed that ‘The Two Towers’ is his favourite of the trilogy, though he noted that his thoughts might alter if he saw them again.
‘The Two Towers’ was published in 2002 and continues the story where ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ left off, with Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn pursuing the Uruk-hai and Frodo and Sam travelling to Mordor. Among the many well-known characters the movie introduced was Gollum, who played a crucial role in the story and was made vivid by Andy Serkis’s ground-breaking performance and cutting-edge computer-generated imagery. Furthermore, characters like Faramir and the Rohan heroes Éomer and Éowyn gave the narrative fresh depth.

The great Battle of Helm’s Deep, which displayed remarkable visual effects and enormous scope, was one of the most memorable conflicts in ‘The Two Towers’. The picture distinguished itself from its predecessors by skillfully striking a balance between action and emotional depth.
A major obstacle in adapting the novel was Jackson’s ability to tie together two parallel storylines: Frodo’s trip and Aragorn’s group’s endeavours. However, his inventive method made it work flawlessly.
Jackson’s whole experience working on the trilogy makes it difficult to distinguish between the three movies, even if he prefers ‘The Two Towers’. It was challenging to pick a clear favourite because the sequences were frequently filmed out of order and the filming was done back-to-back. However, he has a particular place in his heart for ‘The Two Towers’, and fans will probably keep debating which instalment is the best.
