Revisiting Cybertron: ‘Transformers One’ Trailer Unveils Origins of Optimus Prime And Megatron

Get ready to return to the vibrant world of Cybertron as Paramount has unveiled the final trailer for Transformers One. Featuring Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime and Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, this new instalment delves into the origins of two iconic characters who once stood as brothers-in-arms, Orion Pax and D-16, before becoming fierce adversaries.

The trailer hints at the rising tension between these once inseparable friends. In a pivotal moment, Megatron warns Optimus, “You need to move out of my way before I move you myself,” setting the stage for an epic showdown. Directed by Josh Cooley, known for his acclaimed work on Toy Story 4 and Inside Out, the film promises to take the beloved franchise in a bold new direction.

Cooley and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently discussed their vision for the film with Screen Rant, addressing its relationship to the broader Transformers narrative. When asked if Transformers One serves as a prequel to Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts, they clarified that it is a standalone film, deeply rooted in the origins of these legendary characters.

Bonaventura confirmed that while it is indeed a prequel, the film focuses on the foundational lore of the Transformers universe. “We’re really following the lore about where it starts,” he explained. “The origin, yes, but literally the beginning of the thing that we’ve all come to appreciate.”

Cooley elaborated on the storytelling approach for Transformers One, promising to present “different versions” of the beloved Transformers. He expressed excitement over the intimate backstory of the characters, stating, “It’s the most human story we’ve ever told with these characters, which is what I loved the opportunity to take advantage of.”

In addition to its rich character exploration, Bonaventura hinted at an exciting potential crossover with G.I. Joe. He shared that if the film performs well, they aim to expand the Transformers universe, possibly integrating G.I. Joe into the narrative.

“We already have, I think, the beginnings of a really interesting story for the second one, which is also character-based, the way the first [is],” he noted.

As anticipation builds for the film’s release, fans are eager to see how the story unfolds and how these beloved characters are reimagined. Transformers One promises to blend action and depth, offering a fresh take on the saga of Optimus Prime and Megatron that both new and longtime fans can appreciate.
