‘Spy X Anya: Operation Memories’ Review: A Must Play For ‘Spy X Family’ Fans

Anya Forger takes centre stage in the delightful new game, ‘Spy x Anya: Operation Memories.’ This charming slice-of-life game, set in the universe of the popular anime and manga ‘Spy x Family,’ is published by Namco Bandai Games and developed by Groove Box Japan. It features a mix of over 15 minigames and a heartwarming story that follows Anya and her quirky family on ten different outings.

In ‘Spy x Anya: Operation Memories,’ players assist Anya in capturing memories and collecting “Super Cool Items!” to complete a school diary project. Each outing, or “ooting” as Anya calls them, involves gathering photos and items, leading to short, endearing scenes that further develop the game’s characters. Despite being a single-player game, many of the minigames offer a two-player mode, provided both players are using the same system.

The game showcases Anya’s daily life, from her adventures at Eden College to her interactions at home. Players can engage in various minigames to earn points for new outfits and accessories for Anya and her family. The game’s charm lies in its portrayal of everyday moments, with Anya’s telepathic abilities and her family’s secretive lives adding a whimsical touch.

Through dialogues with characters like Loid, Yor, and Bond, players unlock snippets of their backstories and relationships. This narrative element enriches the experience, helping newcomers to the ‘Spy x Family’ series understand the dynamics and possibly encouraging them to explore the anime.

The game splits into outings on Anya’s days off and regular days spent at school or home. During regular days, players can snap photos at Eden College or home, and participate in minigames that span from card games to dream-like adventures. While some might find the gameplay a bit repetitive or slow, the option to skip cutscenes and dialogues can alleviate this.

With over 15 minigames, including ten available for local multiplayer, and a range of cosmetics to unlock, ‘Spy x Anya: Operation Memories’ offers plenty of variety. Although online play is not an option, the local multiplayer mode provides a fun way to share the experience with a friend.
