The Most Anticipated Movies of June 2024

Farewell to the diverse array of movies that graced our screens in 2023, from superhero blockbusters to indie gems and everything in between. Now, say hello to the lineup for 2024, which promises another round of superhero adventures, sequels, remakes, biopics and even adaptations from Broadway musicals and video games.

Here are the most anticipated movies of June 2024.

‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die‘ (Release Date: 7th June)

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence team up once again as Detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett, known for their unconventional methods in Miami’s police force. While the plot details of their latest adventure remain under wraps, we can expect plenty of humour, action-packed shoot-outs, thrilling car chases, encounters with shady characters and the usual tension with their superiors over their antics.

Set against the backdrop of Miami, we anticipate vibrant scenes, possibly featuring a flamingo and a soundtrack that might include the iconic Inner Circle song.

‘Hit Man‘ (Release Date: 7th June)

If you’re familiar with Glenn Powell, you might remember him from Richard Linklater’s 2016 comedy ‘Everybody Wants Some!!’ Now, Powell has teamed up with Linklater again for a new project based on a Texas Monthly article. In this story, he plays a tech-savvy guy who helps the police record undercover sting operations.

When a colleague can’t play the role of a professional killer, Powell’s character steps in. As the operation unfolds, he falls for the client, a woman played by Adria Arjona, who is escaping an abusive relationship. Even after the operation ends, Powell’s character keeps pretending to be a hitman.

‘Ballerina‘ (Release Date: 7th June)

Get ready for the John Wick spin-off story about a dancer-assassin named Rooney (played by Ana de Armas) seeking revenge for her family’s murder. This movie happens between the third and fourth John Wick films, so Keanu Reeves will be making an appearance as our favourite runaway killer.

Also, look out for the regular cast members like Ian MacShane, Angelica Huston, and Lance Reddick (may he rest in peace). Get set for some intense action scenes with killer choreography!

‘Inside Out 2‘ (Release Date: 14th June)

When we last met Riley, the 11-year-old protagonist of Pixar’s heartwarming masterpiece, she was coping with the challenges of moving to a new city and starting afresh. This upheaval sent her emotions, led by Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler), into chaos. Now, many years later, Riley is a young woman facing a whole new set of emotions taking residence in her mind, including Anxiety (voiced by Maya Hawke).

With this influx of new feelings, the original emotions find themselves with unexpected roommates. Alongside Joy, Sadness, and Anger (reprised by Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black), Anxiety, Fear and Disgust (voiced by Hawke, Tony Hale, and Liza Lapira) join the emotional fray.

‘The Bikeriders‘ (Release Date: 21st June)

There’s a buzz around writer-director Jeff Nichols’s new movie set in late 1960s Chicago about a motorcycle gang. People are saying it could be like ‘The Godfather’ but with bikers, which is a big deal if it’s true. The story is inspired by a real-life club from a book by photographer Danny Lyons, who even appears as a character played by Mike Faist from West Side Story.

The movie follows the gang’s leader, played by Tom Hardy, as he tries to protect them from enemies, and it also explores the romance between a young biker, played by Austin Butler, and his girlfriend, played by Jodie Comer. Michael Shannon, Norman Reedus, Boyd Holbrook, Damon Herriman, Emory Cohen, and Toby Wallace are also in the cast.

‘Kinds of Kindness‘ (Release Date: 21st June)

Three tales unfold: one follows a man’s quest for self-determination, another centers on a policeman puzzled by his wife’s changed demeanour and the third chronicles a woman’s pursuit of someone with extraordinary abilities.

‘A Family Affair’ (Release Date: 28th June)

A young woman, her mother, and her famous boss find themselves tangled in a web of romantic complications, leading to comedic chaos. As they navigate the complexities of love, s*x and identity, unexpected twists and turns unravel their lives.

‘Horizon: Chapter 1’ (Release Date: 28th June)

Fresh from his success on ‘Yellowstone,’ Kevin Costner returns to the director’s chair for a two-part Western project he’s been holding onto since the late 1980s. Titled ‘An American Saga,’ the story follows Costner’s seasoned frontiersman as he helps shape the American West in the aftermath of the Civil War and the country’s territorial expansion.

While details are scarce, given Costner’s track record with Dances With Wolves, audiences can anticipate another epic horse opera. The star-studded cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, Jena Malone, Giovanni Ribisi, Glynn Turman, Will Patton, Dale Dickey and more. The first instalment arrives on 28th June, with Part 2 hitting theatres on 16th August.

A Quiet Place: Day One (Release Date: 28th June)

Let’s rewind to the beginning of the alien invasion and explore how it all started. The new movie serves as a prequel to John Krasinski’s popular post-apocalyptic thriller series. It reveals what happened right after those creepy space bugs took over Earth, probably causing a lot of confusion, fear and damage.

We don’t know much about this movie yet, except that Lupita Nyong’o and Alex Wolff are in it, and Djimon Hounsou might reprise his role in the second part. Plus, Michael Sarnoski, who directed the 2021 Nicolas Cage thriller Pig, is directing this time.
