Unveiling Exceptional Ghibli Films Outside Miyazaki’s Legacy

Hayao Miyazaki is the face of Studio Ghibli and rightfully so. But guess what? The movies that nailed perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes are not his! Even though he co-founded Ghibli and gave us gems like ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ and ‘Spirited Away’, the top dogs on the Tomatometer are by Isao Takahata.

We’re talking about ‘Grave of the Fireflies’, ‘The Tale of the Princess Kaguya’ and ‘Only Yesterday’ – all hitting that sweet 100%. Don’t get us wrong, Miyazaki’s a legend, but turns out, Studio Ghibli’s got more than one ace director up its sleeve and Takahata is stealing the perfect score spotlight!

Only Isao Takahata’s Movies Rocked Perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes at Studio Ghibli! Takahata, a Studio Ghibli co-founder, played a crucial role and it’s no shocker that ‘Grave of the Fireflies,’ ‘Only Yesterday’ and ‘The Tale of Princess Kaguya’ are the sole 100% scorers. Takahata didn’t pump out films like Miyazaki, but his few creations hit the bullseye, proving he was a top-notch director.

Takahata’s films being the only ones bagging a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score is mind-blowing, and it’s crystal clear why.

His best works weave emotionally charged tales with stunning storytelling and direction. ‘Grave of the Fireflies,’ ‘Only Yesterday’ and ‘The Tale of the Princess Kaguya’ carry that signature Studio Ghibli magic in every bit of their story and characters. Flaws? Sure, they’ve got a few, but hey, they scream what makes Studio Ghibli so darn awesome and that’s why critics adore them.

In particular, ‘Grave of the Fireflies’ hits you hard with its tragic tale, making it an epic war story. and ‘The Tale of Princess Kaguya’? Nominated for Best Animated Feature, it’s that good. Takahata’s films earned those Rotten Tomatoes scores with style, proving Studio Ghibli’s brilliance isn’t just Miyazaki’s show!
