What is the Met Gala Curse?

Is the most glitzy night in Hollywood actually plagued by a Met Gala curse?  Both fans and tabloids have conjectured over the years that going to the Met Gala could be problematic for celebrity relationships.  The trend has given rise to rumours of a purported curse associated with the greatest event in fashion, from startling splits to tragic fallouts soon after walking the red carpet.

The Met Gala is renowned for its stunning costumes and high-profile attendees, but it has also gained a bad reputation for post-event drama, particularly among couples.  It has been suggested that the glitzy event generates more than just fashion news because celebrities who have posed arm in arm in matching designer outfits have broken up just weeks or months after attending.

It is said that couples who make their first appearance or shine on the red carpet at the Met Gala are destined to fail. This is known as the “Met Gala curse.” The list of breakups is lengthy and shocking, ranging from the brief romance between Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston to the eventual breakup of Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik following their attendance at the 2016 gala together.  Other well-known victims include Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner, who both walked the Met Gala carpet before ending their relationship, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd, and Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.

However, is the Met Gala curse genuine or merely a coincidental event heightened by the media attention?  The notion endures in popular culture, and every year, fans eagerly anticipate which couples will make it past the red carpet and beyond, whether it’s due to unfortunate timing or the demands of celebrity.
