What Mel Was Doing in That ‘Thunderbolts’ Post-Credits Scene

You probably saw one of the most exciting and packed post-credits scenes in the MCU to date if you watched ‘Thunderbolts’ through to the very end. The primary fuss centred on the unexpected appearance of a spacecraft bearing a huge “4”, which was obviously a reference to the Fantastic Four. Fans who were devoted to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s secret world were left wondering about something else as the moment captured the public’s attention: where was Mel?
Geraldine Viswanathan’s portrayal of Mel made her one of Thunderbolts’ most captivating new characters right away. She operated behind the scenes as Valentina’s calm and perhaps unfaithful assistant, quietly influencing important choices and guiding events in unexpected directions — very much in the vein of a covert spy. Her absence, therefore, sparked curiosity as the gang entered Avengers Tower, now known as the “Watchtower,” and encountered what seemed to be the Fantastic Four. Had something happened, or was she just offscreen?

According to Viswanathan, Mel appears in the final scene at the tower. As an indication that she is moving into a more defined role, she now has her own office, equipped with a coffee maker and a view. She’s moving up the ranks, but she’s still not at the top.
Her continued significance in ‘Thunderbolts’ is clarified by this detail. Mel is still firmly a part of the power structure, despite earlier rumours that she might have been fired for betraying Valentina by giving Bucky Barnes away. As she continues to manoeuvre cleverly in the shadows, the promotion implies that she is once again being trusted, or at the very least, attentively observed.
Viswanathan also mentioned Mel’s goals. For her, “making it” entails taking command, making choices, making decisions, and letting go of the coffee-gathering days. Mel is obviously aiming for further prominence in the ‘Thunderbolts’ community, even though she may still be making that coffee with deliberate accuracy.
