When Giancarlo Esposito was cast in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, fans eagerly speculated about which Marvel character he would portray. At San Diego Comic-Con, Esposito revealed he would play Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society, a notorious group of villains in the Captain America universe. This revelation is significant because the Serpent Society is a notable band of mercenaries who offer their services to the highest bidder, often clashing with Captain America and his allies.

Sidewinder originally formed the Serpent Society in ‘Captain America’ #310, bringing together a team of snake-themed criminals, including Princess Python and Death Adder. The Society’s most notorious act was hunting down and killing M.O.D.O.K., and they frequently came into conflict with Captain America, especially when they attempted to acquire the Porcupine’s armour in ‘Captain America’ #315. The group’s dynamic shifted dramatically when Viper, also known as Madame Hydra, took control, leading to attacks on Washington, D.C., and eventually a confrontation with Steve Rogers that resulted in Sidewinder and other members leaving the Society.
