Who is DCU Antihero Lobo?
With projects like ‘Creature Commandos’ and the impending ‘Superman’ movie, starring David Corenswet, James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new vision for the DC Universe has finally begun after much anticipation. Craig Gillespie’s ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, starring Milly Alcock as Supergirl, is one of the intriguing new projects. Known for his portrayal of ‘Aquaman’ in the DCEU, Jason Momoa is making a comeback to play Lobo in Gunn’s DC Universe.
Lobo is a chaotic, vicious bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia who was initially shown in the 1980s. In the 1990s, Lobo’s character—who had been first presented as a villain—became more muscular and antihero, frequently drawing comparisons to Wolverine and the Punisher from Marvel. His appearance has changed over time, going from slick suits to pirate garb, but his tremendous power has remained consistent. Lobo is a dangerous opponent to superheroes like Superman because of his incredible strength, speed, regeneration, and even immortality.

As a bounty hunter, Lobo always keeps his word and follows a rigid code despite his destructive instincts. He is primarily cold-blooded and self-centred, but depending on who is paying him, he occasionally sides with the forces of good and has a soft spot for space dolphins. He is a comic book fan favourite because he combines heartlessness and sporadic bravery.
Although Lobo has made brief live-action appearances on Krypton and in a number of animated series, fans have long anticipated a movie starring the character. It appears that Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo will finally bring the character to the big screen in 2026 with ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, following numerous unsuccessful attempts.
