Why the MCU Replaced Steve Rogers as Captain America And Chose Sam Wilson

Discussions regarding why Steve Rogers was replaced as Captain America by the MCU have been rekindled by the release of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’. Rogers, who was selected by Dr. Abraham Erskine because of his strong moral compass rather than his physical abilities, has been the epitome of the role since his debut in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ (2011). His leadership and unshakeable morality made him the heart of the Avengers, even when the super soldier serum improved him. Rogers chose to step aside, though, and Sam Wilson took over in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019).

Steve Rogers was a selfless person who was always prepared to give up something for the sake of others. He repeatedly demonstrated this, most notably during his last stand against Thanos. He was given the responsibility of promptly putting the Infinity Stones back where they belonged after the battle. He decided to remain in the past and lead a tranquil life with Peggy Carter rather than going back to the present. He formally retired and gave Sam Wilson his shield when he reappeared as an elderly man.

Steve saw that Captain America represented leadership and optimism in addition to being a formidable combatant. Even though Bucky Barnes had turned his life around after serving as the Winter Soldier, his problematic history made him an odd choice to embody that icon. In the meantime, Captain America’s values were personified by Sam Wilson, a soldier who had devoted his life to serving others. He was the ideal successor because of his leadership and compassion.

Despite his pride in his job, Chris Evans is nevertheless apprehensive about going back. Although speculations about the multiverse point to a potential return, Evans has refuted such rumours, claiming to be “happily retired.” Nothing is ever off the table, though, as previous MCU surprises have demonstrated.
