All You Need to Know: Madame Gandhi

Kiran Gandhi, more commonly known as ‘Madame Gandhi’, recently made her arrival known with the brand new single: ‘Waiting For Me‘.
With politically charged tracks like ‘Top Knot Turn Up’ and ‘Young Indian’, she has carved out a unique space for herself in the current music landscape.
Her latest release, an album titled “Visions”, is only the tip of the Madame Gandhi iceberg. The drummer, producer and artist has a lot more in store. And as we wait to see how it all unravels, here’s all you need to know about her.

1. Madame Gandhi’s given name is Kiran Gandhi. She was born to parents Meera Gandhi, a philanthropist and Vikram Gandhi, a social entrepreneur.
2. Gandhi is a woman of many facets. She is an electronic producer, drummer, songwriter and activist.
3. The New York City native uses her art as a form activism. For Gandhi, the “personal has always been political”. Just listen to tracks like ‘Top Knot Turn Up’ for a taste.
4. She recently said in an interview: “Music and feminism is all I have ever cared about.” Her track, ‘Waiting For Me’, is all about reclaiming the narrative of the female experience.
5. Gandhi famously ran a 42 km marathon in London, free-bleeding on her period, combating societal stigma around menstruation.
6. Madame Gandhi is music, brains and more. Her academic repertoire boasts degrees from Georgetown University and Harvard University.
7. She is a skilled drummer and has accompanied M.I.A, Thievery Corporation, Kehlani and more on stage. She even took the stage with Oprah Winfrey on her 2020 tour.
8. She released her debut EP, “Voices”, in 2016. “Visions”, her 2020 EP, is the follow up to that release.
9. Her first step into the music world was as an official internship with Interscope Records, where she was the first ever data analyst.
10. Artists like Nas and Lauryn Hill, she says, have “instilled [in her] a sense of empathy and storytelling [she didn’t] have access to anywhere else.”
