All You Need To Know; Saweetie
Diamanté Quiava Valentin Harper, fondly known as Saweetie, was recently catapulted to fame with the release of her catchy hit, ‘Tap In’. A couple days ago, the young star opened up about the theme binding this track together and why it was so important to her. “It was a very sensitive time in America around the Black Lives Matter riots and protests. I wanted to have a message, and ‘tapping in’ doesn’t only mean to parties. It means tapping into the things you care about — and I care about change in my community and in the country.”
That being said, how well do you really know Saweetie? With her distinct rap style and charming persona, there’s no doubting that she’s going to make it really big in the industry. And while she’s on her steady rise, we figured we’d properly acquaint you with this buzzing star. So, pull up a chair because we’re diving into all things Saweetie!

2. Saweetie began posting short raps on her Instagram account in 2016. One video featured her rapping over the beat from Khia’s ‘My Neck, My Back (Lick It)’, which would gradually become her smash hit, ‘Icy Grl’.
3. The video for the song went viral on the Internet and went on to rake in a whopping 100 million views on YouTube as of this year.
4. Saweetie released her major label debut EP, “High Maintenance”, on March 16th, 2018. It nursed a good nine tracks and did exceedingly well.
5. Born as Diamante Harper, Saweetie’s stage name comes from a nickname that her grandmother gave her as a child.
6. Growing up, some of her biggest influences have been Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, Nicki Minaj and a number of other powerful rappers.
7. Speaking of her childhood, Saweetie was truly surrounded by stars. “Our family grew up with the Burrell’s (MC Hammer’s family). My cousin’s dad is MC Hammer,” she explained in an interview, “We all grew up together and it’s interesting to see how we turned out.”
8. On the dating front, Saweetie has been tied up with rapper colleague, Quavo, since mid-2018.
9. Saweetie released her second major label EP, “Icy”, on March 29th, 2019. The EP’s first single, ‘My Type’ debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 81, marking her first song to enter the Hot 100. ‘My Type’ went on to peak at number 21, becoming Saweetie’s first top 40 hit on the Hot 100 charts.
10. In early August, Saweetie notched a fantastic collaboration alongside Lauv and Ava Max for a remixed version of the latter’s ‘Kings & Queens’. And so, it looks like for this buzzing star, there’s nowhere to go but up!
