Ed Sheeran Talks Mental Health: 10 Shocking Revelations

Ed Sheeran may be taking a break from music. But, the superstar singer-songwriter will always be heard. Bringing his own unique sound to pop music, and redefining much of the songwriting in the scene today, Ed Sheeran is a hitmaker of modern day classics. From up tempo singles like ‘Shape of You’ and ‘I Don’t Care’ to slower romantic ballads like ‘Perfect’ and ‘Thinking Out Loud’, he is an understated but immense pop presence.
But, this industry is not without its perils. Ed Sheeran got candid in a recent interview, opening up for the first time about his struggles with mental health. The singer elaborated on his experiences with panic attacks, anxiety, binge eating and more. Here are 10 shocking revelations from the singer about his journey with mental health.
2. Explaining the extent of his drinking habits, Ed revealed, “I’d rather have two bottles… Having a glass of wine is having something in moderation. But, two bottles of wine probably might make you quite sad.”3. Ed also shined the light on his habit of binge-eating. He explained: “They used to call me two-dinner Teddy because I used to order two meals and eat that.”4. Speaking of his various vices, Sheeran said, “I think things like sugar, sweet stuff, junk food, cocaine, alcohol, it feels good the more you do, but it’s the worst thing for you.”5. Shining the light on his tour lifestyle, he revealed, “(I’d) wake up and then come out, do the show, drink, get back on the bus and I didn’t see sunlight for maybe four months.”6. Elaborating on the viscious cycle, Sheeran explained, “It’s all fun and games at the start. It’s all rock and roll, and then like it starts getting sad.”7. Sheeran revealed that he began noticing similarities between his and Elton John’s past habits. He said, “He would be like, ‘I would just go on an ice cream binge and eat four desserts until I threw up,’ and I was like, ‘I’ve done that before.”8. Talking about his lowest point, Sheeran recalled, “I felt, ‘What was the point?’ In a dark way, like, ‘Why am I around? What is the point?”. Further, he even suffered from panic attacks.9. Speaking of his road to change, Ed credited his wife, Cherry Seaborn with influencing him positively. His wife is into eating healthy and exercising and doesn’t drink. And so, he started emulating her habits.10. In addition to living healthy, Ed has also been spending time doing the things he loves. Painting is a recent hobby that he’s taken up that helps his unwind and relax.
