Lewis Capaldi: Celebrating His Greatest Career Moments
Today, on October 7th, Lewis Capaldi celebrates his birthday. The young star initially drew all eyes to him in March of 2019, when he put out the heartbreaking number, ‘Someone You Loved’. But that being said, Capaldi actually found his footing in the music scene at a very young age.
At the tender age of two, Capaldi learned to play the drums and guitar. When he was nine, he officially began his musical career, singing in pubs. And by the time he turned eighteen, he was discovered by his manager Ryan Walter through a track he had recorded in his bedroom and uploaded to his SoundCloud account. The day after first contacting Capaldi, Walter flew from America to Britain to hear Capaldi play live. Well, that was your brief history lesson on the star’s rise to fame. But on his birthday, we figured we’d celebrate by looking at some of the greatest milestones he’s crossed in his career. So, brace yourselves, because right now Mr. Capaldi is ready to steal the show.

2. In late 2017, Capaldi was named as one of Vevo dscvr ‘Artists to Watch 2018’ and he even went on to win Best Acoustic at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
3. Capaldi has also toured with some pretty great artists. For starters, he supported Rag’n’Bone Man on his European tour in November 2017.
4. Following this, a lot of heads turned towards him – particularly those of other musicians. Kygo, James Bay, Ellie Goulding and Niall Horan all acknowledged his immense potential as an artist.
5. And subsequently, Horan invited Capaldi to support him on two dates on his Flicker World Tour at the Glasgow SEC Armadillo in March 2018. Now, touring with a former One Direction star is no small feat, as you might imagine.
6. Gradually, as more and more people took notice of his talent, Capaldi was included in the line-ups for many festivals during the summer of 2018. This included Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Firefly, Reading & Leeds Festival, and many more.
7. Now, for the moment you’ve all been waiting for: the release of ‘Someone You Loved’. This track spent a good seven weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart.
8. At the end of October 2019, ‘Someone You Loved’ claimed the throne at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first Scottish solo artist to top the chart since Sheena Easton in 1981.
9. Oh but it didn’t stop there. ‘Someone You Loved’ was also nominated for Song of the Year at the 2020 Grammys, and Capaldi received three nominations at the 2020 Brit Awards. He took home two of those three trophies that evening.
10. And finally, Capaldi also made history by becoming the first-ever artist in global history to both announce and sell out an arena tour before the release of a debut album.
