August witnessed one of the most anticipated events of 2020: MTV’s Video Music Awards. Between a string of star-studded performances to the winners of this prestigious night, the event came and went far too quickly. But thankfully, award season has just kickstarted because the next big event on the block is the Billboard Music Awards.
Voting for this ceremony will begin from October 1. And in an exciting turn of events, Kelly Clarkson is set to resume her role as host of the night. Further, the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, will broadcast live from The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
This year’s awards are based on the chart period of March 23, 2019 through March 14, 2020. Now that we’ve got the nitty gritties out of the way, it’s time to dive headfirst into the list of nominees.

2. Newbie to the industry, Lil Nas X is following closely behind with 13 nominations. His buzzing track ‘Old Town Road’ took the Billboard charts by storm, so it’s no surprise that he’s a contender in some of the biggest categories. 3. The young Khalid has also managed to score a ridiculous number of nominations. The figure currently stands at 12. In fact, Khalid stands right beside Post Malone as they’re both competing in many of the same categories. 4. Billie Eilish has tied with Khalid with 12 nominations. Like Lil Nas X, she’s also a part of the Best New Artist category. Her debut record, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” nursed a number of chart-topping hits that continue to soar through charts. 5. After earning their very first No. 1 claim on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, it’s no surprise that BTS has also raked in a number of nominations. They’ve found a space in categories like The Best Duo/Group and Top Social Artist. 6. Lizzo may not have been too active on the music front this year, but that hasn’t stopped the Billboard Music Awards from recognizing her standout talent. The gal’s scored in categories like Top New Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top R&B Artist and more. 7. While Taylor Swift’s latest album, ‘Folklore’ broke some mind-boggling chart records, it’s release does fall outside the chart period. And yet, she’s still nabbed nominations in some big categories like Top Song Sales Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist and more. 8. The Weeknd created waves with his May release ‘”After Hours”. In fact, his track ‘Blinding Lights’ from the album continues to make history on the Billboard Charts. And so, he’s up for awards in a lot of the R&B categories. 9. Ariana Grande has also scored big for the 2020 Billboard Music Awards. She’s a contender in categories like Top Female Artist and Top Social Artist. 10. The young Roddy Ricch is still finding his footing in the industry, but that hasn’t stopped him from scoring awards in some of the biggest categories out there. While he dropped out of the 2020 VMAs, here’s hoping he can make it to the Billboard Music Awards.
