Words To Live By: Celebrating Bruno Mars
Today, Bruno Mars rings in his 35th birthday. The star’s made quite a name for himself in the industry. He’s known to have moulded the pop music world into something magical. In fact, some might even call him a prodigy, considering that he found his calling in music at a very young age.
Mars is one of six children and came from a musical family which exposed him to a diverse mix of music genres, including reggae, rock, hip hop, and R&B. Both his parents were heavily involved in music and it didn’t take long for that to influence young Bruno. At just about 3 years old, Mars had already taken to the stage, performing hits by stars like Michael Jackson, The Isley Brothers, and The Temptations. Ultimately, in 2010, Mars made his breakthrough when he released, ‘Just the Way You Are,’ the lead single from his debut studio album, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans”. The song reached number one in the US, Canada, the UK, and several other countries. Well as they say, the rest is history.
And with a good amount of years in the industry, Bruno’s also got some really great words of wisdom. These lines speak of the world, music and life in the industry. They all come with a strong burst of encouragement and that is after all, the need of the hour right?

Bruno Mars: Words To Keep You Going
2. “You can’t knock on opportunity’s door and not be ready.”
3. “I don’t throw lavish parties or nothing like that – I just want a bed and a TV.”
4. “I just know that I’m a fan of all different kinds of genres. You’re supposed to be free doing music, and that’s how I feel.”
5. “What I’m hoping is that every album I’m going to do will give my audience something different, and that they’ll grow as I do.”
6. “I feel it’s my job to continue being a student of music if I want to continue being an artist and a producer of other artists. You have to keep filling your mind with other music. You have to be ahead of the curve.”
7. “I know a lot of artists say this, but it’s hard to put myself in a box. I just write songs that I strongly believe in and that are coming form a special place. There’s no tricks.”
8. “You pick up some fans and a handful of haters along the way.”
9. “I feel, as a songwriter, it’s one of the hardest things to do – to sit down and say how you feel.”
10. “I just know that I’m a fan of all different kinds of genres. You’re supposed to be free doing music, and that’s how I feel.”
