Halsey Does a Linkin Park

Halsey’s always worn her rock influences proudly and over the years we’ve watched her explore different genres effortlessly. She started off with a lot more indie tunes in her album, ‘Bad Lands’, before landing safely in the purely pop genre and yet, we’ve managed to get a peak of her love for rock in songs like, ‘Nightmare’.

She’s always been a fan of unusual collabs and that’s why it wasn’t surprising when she dropped a song with the band, Bring Me the Horizon.

The song is called “¿,” and it finds Halsey’s earthy voice colouring an otherwise industrial, yet melodic soundscape, that’s quite reminiscent of Linkin Park. Interestingly enough, the song is a strange cocktail of beats, along with Halsey’s vocals and somehow manages to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

The lyrics on the other hand are rather familiar. They’re dark and angsty, much like the kind of song-writing seen in ‘Nightmare’.

The tune is featured on Bring Me the Horizon’s new EP. The eight-track project, titled (ready for this?) sees the English rock outfit veer into a more electronica-based sound, which shows that they’re always keen on exploring new territory. The EP follows Bring Me The Horizon’s sixth full-length studio set, Amo, as well as “Ludens,” their contribution to the soundtrack for the video game Death Stranding: Timefall, from earlier this year.

Well, it looks like Halsey’s keeping us busy with new music until her album, ‘Manic’ drops on Jan 17th. It’s a fantastic way to bide the time and we really aren’t complaining!
