12 New ‘Donda 2’ Songs Have Been Added To The Stem Player By Ye
Kanye West aka Ye has updated his customized Stem Player platform to add 12 additional songs to ‘Donda 2,’ bringing the total number of songs to 16. The album, West’s 11th and a direct follow-up to last year’s ‘Donda,’ is only available through the platform, which is exclusive to the rapper’s Yeezy Tech firm and costs $200 (£150). Following a listening party and live performance in Miami the night before, four songs from the album — ‘Security,’ ‘Pablo,’ ‘Broken Road,’ and ‘We Did It Kid’ – were made accessible to Stem Player owners on Wednesday (February 23).
The previously-released ‘City Of Gods’ (with Fivio Foreign and Alicia Keys) and the Soulja Boy-assisted ‘First Time In A Long Time’ are among the 12 new songs added overnight. There are also two tracks on the album with guest appearances from the late XXXTentacion (opening ‘True Love’ and ‘Selfish’), as well as two songs with Future (‘Happy’ and ‘Keep It Burning’). Future is also said to have executive produced the album.
‘Keep It Burning’ incorporates an interpolation of Talking Heads’ ‘Burning Down The House,’ while ‘Louie Bags’ samples current US Vice President Kamala Harris’ address. Meanwhile, ‘Sci Fi’ has a snippet of West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s monologue from last October’s Saturday Night Live. One song, ‘Lord Lift Me Up,’ does not include West at all; instead, Houston rapper Vory performs it.
Only two songs from the Miami show – ‘I’m Finna Love Me’ and ‘Mr. Miyagi’ – have yet to be included on the album. ‘Keep It Burning,’ on the other hand, was not performed at the event and will be heard for the first time on Stem Player.
There are six more tracks that could be added to the mix in the near future, according to a provisional tracklist for ‘Donda 2’ that Ye shared last week. But it’s worth noting that none of those songs were performed at Ye’s Miami show on Tuesday (February 22).
Fans were treated to approximately 45 minutes of music, which included West’s recent collaborations with The Game (‘Eazy’) and Pusha T (‘Diet Coke,’ which Ye co-produced). The occasion continued to a live performance with numerous songs from ‘Donda’ after an appearance by the rapper’s Sunday Service Choir.
Ye was joined by the track’s controversial featured artists for his performance of ‘Jail 2’: Marilyn Manson, who is facing multiple allegations and lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault (which he denies), and DaBaby, who received backlash last year after making homophobic remarks during a festival appearance.
Ye announced over the weekend that in the 24 hours following his announcement that the Stem Player would be the only method to listen to “Donda 2,” he had made over $2.2 million (£1.6 million) in Stem Player sales. However, following the statement, Apple is said to have canceled a $2 million (£1.5 million) sponsorship arrangement with West.
