50 Cent Makes Surprise Appearance During Super Bowl Halftime Show
50 Cent made an unexpected cameo at the Super Bowl Halftime Show on 13th February, joining Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige. All of the aforementioned musicians, with the exception of 50 Cent, had been confirmed to play at the annual sporting event, which took place in LA’s SoFi Stadium.
Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre kicked off the night with performances from atop a set of white buildings. Following their performance of ‘California Love,’ the camera shifted to the bottom floor of one of the buildings, where 50 Cent was hanging upside down, a reference to the video for his smash single ‘In Da Club,’ which he subsequently performed.
The event continued with performances from Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem after his segment of the performance — which he concluded standing the correct way up among a group of dancers.
Fans shared memes commenting on 50 Cent’s upside-down performance, which instantly became a much-talked-about moment from the halftime show on Twitter. Check out some reactions to the moment below.
Speaking ahead of the event, Snoop Dogg said performing at the halftime show was a ‘dream come true’. “I’m still thinking I’m in a dream because I can’t believe that they will let a real hip-hop artist grace the stage in an NFL Super Bowl,” he said. “We’re just going to wait for that moment and put something together that’s spectacular, and do what we’re known for doing and add on to the legacy.”
Blige also disclosed that she was not being paid to perform, but said she didn’t care because it was ‘a once-in-a-lifetime experience’. “Listen, you’re gonna be paid for the rest of your life off of this,” she said. “People are gonna be knocking at your doors. They don’t have to pay me, but if they was paying it would be a lot of money.”
