6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj Fall From Grace: ‘Trollz’ Suffers
‘Trollz’ by 6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj may have enjoyed the biggest pure sales debut on the Billboard Hot 100 (in 2020), propelling it No.1 on the chart last week, but how the tables have turned.
According to the Hot 100 chart ranking of this week, ‘Trollz’ by Nicki Minaj and 6ix9ine plummets to No. 34, making it the “steepest fall in the history of the Hot 100 chart”. This not-so-prestigious record was previously held by The Weeknd when his track ‘Heartless’ fell from No. 1 to No. 17 the week after its chart debut.
In the Billboard Hot 100 chart ranking for the week 22nd June-28th June, ‘Trollz’ by Nicki Minaj and 6ix9ine, debuted at No. 1. Much to the industry’s surprise, the track reigned supreme with minimal radio play and playlisting, something that Nicki Minaj says “no one is doing in 2020”.
6ix9ine was expectantly ecstatic, as the ranking was monumental for both him and Nicki Minaj. ‘Trollz’ gifted 6ix9ine with his first career No. 1, while giving Nicki her first career No. 1 in a lead role. The two rappers, now ironically, claimed their identities as the “real ones” who were “fighting the industry”. 6ix9ine went so far as to drag fellow rappers Future and Meek Mill for never having a No. 1.
6ix9ine has quickly become the ironic joke of the internet – the one we all laugh at, but continue to pay attention to. The rapper duo’s ‘Trollz’ win comes shortly after Tekashi lost his cool for losing out on his first No. 1 with ‘Gooba’. Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande landed No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with their collboration ‘Stuck With U’.
In a tantrum posted to Instagram, 6ix9ine accused Bieber, Grande and Billboard of manipulating chart positions by promoting merchandise sales. Cut to the release of ‘Trollz’ and Tekashi is selling vinyls, cassettes and other music format merchandise to promote the single.
No doubt 6ix9ine will have hands to throw. Expect a rant or two anytime soon, folks.
