U2, the legendary Irish rock band, has collaborated with A.R Rahaman, the Indian musical genius. He has previously produced hit songs in collaboration with bands like Pussycat dolls and Dido and now the Indian producer, director and singer has joined hands with U2 on the release of ‘Ahimsa’ – U2’s first single in two years.

In his tweet announcing the collab he wrote “‘I’ll meet you where there is no sleeping… But we wake up to dream… Here is my latest collaboration Ahimsa with U2.” Rahman had initially released a photo of him working alongside U2 , shocking fans all over the world.

The Irish band U2 is scheduled to perform in Mumbai on 15th December and with this release, it’s clear that the band is enthusiastic to perform fans for their Indian fans as they tour the country for the first time in their career. The band is set to bring their acclaimed ‘The Joshua Tree Tour ‘, honoring the band’s 1987 album of a similar name, to India. It will be the last destination of their tour .

The band made the surprising announcement on Wednesday morning by sharing a video on their Instagram platform. In the post, band members Bono and The Edge are seen brainstorming their plans for the show, with the lead vocalist announcing ” it will be] the best night of my life” and promising a “transcendent moment in the history of rock and roll.” The announcement also mentioned that the group plans to unveil four undefined “features from U2’s extensive collection of songs” remixed by Indian artists.

Speaking about the collaboration and the themes explored by the song, Rahman said – “Ahimsa requires courage and strength. A quality that is impervious to weapons or power. It’s a mission which is most needed to heal the modern world and it is incredible timing to collaborate with U2, with their amazing legacy, to revive this movement.”

When asked about the mission and meaning of the song both parties said that the song was a fight against injustice and there’s no better way to be heard than engaging in ahimsa; non violence. Martin Luther king and Mahatma Gandhi were cited as their inspiration for this musical eargasm! Fans were elated as they discovered that Khatija and Raheema, Rahamans daughters were also featured in the new release.
