‘A Goofy Movie’ Celebrates 30th Anniversary with 360-Degree Virtual Reality Powerline Concert Experience

Disney’s most recent immersive experience allows fans of ‘A Goofy Movie’ to enjoy the next best thing to a live performance, even though Powerline is a fictional pop icon.
Disney has released a virtual reality version of the iconic concert from the 1995 film to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Goofy and his son Max unexpectedly join Powerline onstage in that iconic scene, and they execute a choreographed dance to the fan-favorite hit song ‘I2I.’ The dance begins with Goofy’s trademark “Perfect Cast” technique, which honours an earlier scene in the movie.
The unique virtual reality experience gives fans the impression that they are actually on stage during the exciting performance by fusing the allure of vintage animation with contemporary digital technology. Users may explore the full 360-degree scenario by moving their head, device, or mouse to change their perspective and feel like they are part of the action, whether they are viewing it on a desktop computer, a smartphone, or a VR headset.

As Max’s love interest Roxanne watches from home, audiences are thrust directly into the film’s climactic sequence, enjoying the excitement of Goofy and Max’s unexpected arrival alongside Powerline as they do their dance beautifully in front of a boisterous throng.
Disney fans who are keen to celebrate the film’s lasting legacy frequently repeat the dance routine, which has become a mainstay at fan events, weddings, cruise ships, and more throughout the years. Not Just a Goof, a recent Disney+ documentary on ‘A Goofy Movie’, explores the significance of this scene.
The most difficult aspect of the movie, according to director Kevin Lima, was animating the ’I2I’ performance because of the elaborate lighting effects and several visual layers. The animation wouldn’t have been complete without the live reference video, according to storyboard artist Steve Moore, who recalls how the team recorded a full group of dancers on a Burbank soundstage to assist in choreographing the scene.
‘A Goofy Movie’ and ‘Not Just a Goof’ are both presently available for streaming on Disney+.
