A New Year But Our Same Old Obsession With Music!

Happy New Year! What better way to start your year than music? Music goes beyond all boundaries, be it geographical or metaphorical, and makes our days worth living and sometimes, even worth romanticising. This new year is going to be filled with music because multiple artists have promised us an album this year. While artists like Doja Cat, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Selena Gomez among many others have not yet announced the title of their albums for 2023, there are artists who have given us a clear picture of what we can expect. Let’s take a look at a few albums that are bound to make our 2023 a year worth remembering!

‘Utopia’ by Travis Scott will be his fourth album after ‘Rodeo’, ‘Birds in the Trap Sing Brian McKnight’ and ‘Astroworld’. All of his previous albums have gone Platinum, with the last two featuring at No. 1 on the charts. Ever since he released ‘Franchise’ in 2020, he has been signalling towards ‘Utopia’ and in 2021, he described the album as psychedelic rock. This is going to be a new and unexplored genre from Scott and we are very excited about it!

‘This is me… Now’ by Jennifer Lopez is going to be her first album in eight years, which increases our anticipation for the same. JLo released a post in November where she put the cover art of her 2002’s ‘This is me… Then’ in contrast with her upcoming project ‘This is me… Now’. The press release states that This Is Me… Now “chronicles the emotional, spiritual and psychological journey that she has taken over the past two decades. In addition, these autobiographical stories informed by the album will result in other very personal projects that will be released next year… more to come on that.”

‘Ben’ by Macklemore is all set to be on floors this year. This is going to be his first album in five years and he has also announced a tour around the UK and Europe for 2023. According to sources, Macklemore had a hard time during the pandemic, and since we know he always incorporates his personal life into his projects, the fans anticipate that he will have a lot to share regarding his life during the pandemic.

‘Coke Boyz 6: Money Heist Edition’ by French Montana is going to be released in 2023 too. Montana previously shared a teaser for his album on his social media handles. The visualizer gave us many insights, especially with who the album will feature, and surprisingly it includes many big names from the industry. This includes Max B, Stove God, T Dot, Ayoub, Chinese Kitty, Kenzo B and D Thang.

‘Star Line Gallery’ by Chance The Rapper is inspired by the trade routes created by Marcus Garvey in the 1920s and then merging it with his admiration of modern art galleries. In a conversation with Complex, Chance says the the project ‘Star Line Gallery,’ is “going to be all Black artists from everywhere around the world with all different experiences, but a connection, and in conversation with me and my collaborators to create new pieces that show what it means to be Black right now.”
