A$AP Rocky to Star Alongside Denzel Washington and Ice Spice in Spike Lee’s Upcoming Film

A$AP Rocky is set to star alongside Denzel Washington and Ice Spice in Spike Lee’s upcoming film Highest 2 Lowest. The movie, a loose adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 thriller High and Low, will premiere on OTT in the summer of 2025, though the exact release date has yet to be confirmed.

Lee, who last directed Da 5 Bloods in 2020, provided more details about the project to Deadline. The original High and Low featured Toshiro Mifune as a shoe executive racing against time to save his kidnapped son. In Highest 2 Lowest, Washington will take on the lead role of a music mogul with his own label, renowned for having the best ears in the industry. This marks the fifth collaboration between Lee and Washington, following films such as Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), and Inside Man (2006).

Lee also shared that Rocky will have a prominent role in the film, alongside Spice. For Rocky, this film will follow his role in the upcoming A24 drama If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. He made his acting debut in 2015’s Dope. Spice, in contrast, will be making her feature film debut with Highest 2 Lowest.

In addition to acting, Rocky has been focused on his much-anticipated fourth studio album, which has faced delays due to unauthorized leaks and sample clearance issues. Washington, meanwhile, recently appeared in Gladiator 2, which has had moderate success at the box office, alongside Wicked.

In a recent interview, Lee expressed admiration for Washington’s performance in Gladiator 2, where he portrayed Macrinus, a former slave turned slave master and arms dealer. Lee also predicted that Washington would likely receive an Oscar nomination in 2025, stating that he’s definitely getting nominated.
