Adam Sandler Gets Emotional While Honouring Chris Farley and Norm Macdonald in Musical Tribute at SNL’s 50th Special

During a special musical tribute to ‘Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary, Adam Sandler broke down in tears. The 58-year-old actor, who starred on the show from 1990 to 1995, paid tribute to SNL’s influence on popular culture by performing a moving song called ‘50 Years’ that reflected on the show’s highs and lows.
Sandler’s acoustic performance on the ‘SNL50: The Anniversary Special’ in New York City was preceded by an introduction by Jack Nicholson. The song made lighthearted references to SNL’s history while praising the work of the cast and crew, including Wally, the cue card handler, and the show’s nurse. The lyrics paid homage to the original cast, which Sandler believes to be the best, while also making lighthearted allusions to the various talent sources that were gathered for the production, including Second City, the Groundlings, and stand-up comedians.

Sandler continued by honouring Chris Farley and Norm Macdonald by remarking, “Six years of our boy Farley and five of our buddy Norm.” Sandler then pondered emotionally on the amazing years spent with other SNL performers. He acknowledged the incredible experiences shared over the course of 50 years of ‘Saturday Night Live’ as he wrapped up the tribute. Viewers saw him stifling tears as he spoke about his departed pals, and his voice wavered.
During his stand-up comedy appearances, Sandler has paid homage to Farley in the past. In 2022, he talked about how painful it still is for him to remember Farley, who died in 1997 at the age of 33.
Other former cast members joined Sandler at the ‘SNL50: The Homecoming Concert’ on 14th February, in addition to his participation at the SNL50 anniversary special. He and his wife, Jackie Sandler, shared a tender moment on the red carpet before the event.
