Aerosmith Performs Their First Show Since Before The Pandemic

Aerosmith gave their first performance since the pandemic began and their first since lead singer Steven Tyler made his recovery debut at Maine Savings Amphitheatre.

Before their European and UK tours were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Aerosmith gave their final performance as part of their Deuces Are Wild Las Vegas residency in February 2020. The band stated that their residency would continue in March of this year.

Later, they cancelled the residency’s first set of scheduled dates, citing Tyler’s relapse and start of treatment.

The delays were also due to drummer Joey Kramer’s leave of absence from the band earlier this year, creating what was Aerosmith’s longest absence from the stage since their formation in 1970.

At their Maine performance, Joe Perry, the guitarist for Aerosmith, made the announcement that it was their first gig in 2.5 years, which saw Tyler return to the stage after leaving rehab in July. Perry then joked that all they had been doing was lie on their backs and watch shows on OTT.

Aerosmith’s 17-song line-up featured two songs: a revival of the song ‘Full Circle’ from their ‘Nine Lives’ album and a version of ‘Remember (Walking in the Sand)’ by The Shangri-Las, which they hadn’t played in 2013 and 2017 respectively.

’70s staples, ‘Back in the Saddle’ and ‘Same Old Song and Dance’ were the band’s opening numbers, while ‘Dude (Looks Like a Lady)’ and ‘Sweet Emotion’ were their closing numbers. Aerosmith performed ‘Dream On,’ ‘Walk This Way’ and their rendition of Bull Moose Jackson’s ‘Big Ten Inch Record’ as part of the encore.

Aerosmith performed in Maine before another concert at Fenway Park in Boston this week. After that, they’ll resume their residency in Vegas with a series of performances planned at the Dolby Live stadium through the end of the year.

Following Aerosmith’s statement that founding member and drummer Kramer will sit out the band’s concerts in 2022 so he can devote his full time to his family, it was revealed that drum technician Jack Douglas will take Kramer’s place during the performances.
