After teasing fans over the new release of his upcoming mixtape, SUGA of BTS donns his ‘Agust D’ persona and gets straight to work. The mixtape, titled ‘D-2’ is officially out now, on all platforms. Featuring bandmate RM, American singer-songwriter MAX and Korean star Kim Jong Wan, the mixtape contains 10 songs.

The release is accompanied by a music video for the high-energy track ‘Daechwita‘. Daechwita is a genre of Korean music that is traditionally used for military processions. Agust D uses traditional Korean percussion and folk instruments for production elements throughout the track. For fans familiar with his solo music, the use of these elements come with an air of familiarity, reminiscent of his work in tracks like ‘Ddaeng’ and ‘UGH’.

Going hand in hand with the song, the music video featuring Agust D is set in a traditional Korean ceremony, with SUGA announcing the arrival of a new king. Agust D always presents himself with an air of confidence and this project is self-assuredness and belief personified. Backed by a high-energy trap beat, he raps: “Born a slave, but now a king/ Born in a ditch, but rise up a dragon// That’s the way I live.” The pre-chorus, emphasising SUGA’s place in the industry and rap game, blares loud, resonating with the lines: “Pathetic f*cks putting on a talent show/ not gonna lie, what a shit show// I got no pretensions, just kill em’ all//”.

ARMY is freaking out, and there are no surprises there. With ‘D-2′, Min Yoongi explores all the musicality that may often take a backseat on BTS’ joint records. With production, song-writing and delivery unique to him, Agust D is back, and stronger than ever.

‘D-2’ by Agust D is available on all streaming platforms now.
